Cookies in Zendesk - EU Cookie Directive

At Zendesk, we take your privacy seriously and are working continuously to comply with all privacy regulations. Recently the European Union passed a Directive requiring all web applications to inform users residing in the EU which cookies they use and how users can control placement of cookies on their devices. As part of our compliance efforts, we've updated our cookie policy and added links to it in the header of all our application pages. You can always access the cookie policy on our website, which includes details on which cookies we use and why we use them.

The Zendesk application only uses cookies to maintain user sessions and to remember user preferences within Zendesk. You are free to disable cookies in your browser, but you'll need to log in frequently and we'll not be able to remember if you've already hidden some notifications. The application does not use cookies for marketing purposes, and does not track users after they've left Zendesk or when a user switches between help desks.

Is it possible to edit the copy of these links? Currently we have "privacy and cookies policy". If we are unable to remove these links, can we change the copy to simply be "cookies policy"? Thanks!

@James: You can hide these with CSS, but we're tweaking this functionality and you'll see some slight changes rolled out next week. We'll hide the link once a user has clicked on it, and only show the cookie policy link to IP addresses in the EU.

@Ben: The privacy and cookies policy link seems to still be up; could you guys move it to the footer at least instead? That seems like a more appropriate place (near the "Help desk software by Zendesk" link).

fyi: i'm seeing the link and i'm in the usa.

also, i'd like to second jake's suggestion.  please move it to footer or at least give us the option of where we would like to see these links in the future.  we've designed our banner to hold the text copy just so... and now the user link is pushed off to the left so that it is difficult to see for the viewer.

@Tetris Tester: For the mean time, you could create a global css widget with the following to hide the link:

.cboxElement {

You will end up with two | characters in a row though, like this:

Joe User  |  Change password  |  |  logout

Hello- I too wonder if showing this for non EU IP addresses will be implemented; it's always shown for me. I used jake's suggestion as above, but the two vertical bars are a detail I would like to not leave in place. (Our company has no customers/market outside the US.) If there's another suggestion for hiding that, I'm all ears.

Based on feedback here and through tickets, we've learned that the current link to the Zendesk Privacy Policy creates confusion for your customers. As a result, we are reverting this change and removing the privacy link from your user portals. In our privacy policy we have a description of the types of cookies we utilize to provide the Zendesk Service.  If you believe you need to update the reference to cookies which your customers may be exposed to in your own cookie policies, please feel free to use these descriptions.  If you need further detail regarding these cookies, we can provide that to you as well.  Please contact for assistance.
