How to select a value from a customer list without getting redirected
Here is a tip that shows how you can select (and copy) from the customer list page, without getting redirected to the user profile while you are doing so.
This is something I've often found myself doing as a Zendesk admin, so I thought I share it to the community. It's simple to use, once you know of it.
Use case
You want to copy a value or a few values from a customer list, Like an user id:
Problem situation
Trying to copy-paste directly will fail, since if you select text from the list, you must first click on the row, and that click redirects you to the user's profile.
The process Export as CSV > get export email > open export zip > open csv is a bit of a overkill here, when you just need need one value (or a few).
Solution
I've found that you can temporarily disable the automatic redirection for one click, if you first open the customer list menu:
(The customer list menu is only visible if the user has edit permission on the list.)
Use the csv export if you need to export structured data
While this approach also technically works to select the whole table (select rows and columns and copy to clipboard), this is probably a bad idea unless you know exactly what you're doing.
Because copy-pasting a whole table that way, the formatting of the copied data will vary, you'll only get the values in the first page (if there are more), you'll have lots of variation based on browser, your OS, etc
For this kind of export, the Export as CSV function is very useful.
