What is changing?

This release includes several new and updated capabilities, including editing field order, hiding standard asset fields, asset events as action flow triggers, and changing the purchase cost field type from decimal to currency.

Editing asset field order for each asset type

Admins can now reorder asset fields uniquely for each asset type. Previously, the order was global across all asset types.

In Admin Center, you can drag and drop fields within each field group (global, hardware, etc.) to control the order in which they appear in the asset detail view in Support and in the asset fields list in Admin Center.

See Reordering asset fields.

Hiding standard asset fields

In addition to editing the order of asset fields, admins can now hide standard asset fields from agent-facing views if they aren't necessary for their workflows. Hidden fields remain fully visible and editable in Admin Center and accessible through the API, and no data is deleted when a field is hidden. This reduces clutter and helps keep agents focused on the information that matters most.

See Hiding unused standard asset fields.

Enhancements to assets in action flow triggers

Action flows can already be used to create and update assets. Now the following additional asset actions are available: Delete asset, Assign asset, and Unassign asset. There is also a new Search assets step allows you to query the asset inventory, using filters, text search, and sort options, within automated action flows and pass the data to subsequent steps.

Additionally, creating, updating, deleting, assigning, and unassigning assets are now events that can be used as action flow triggers.

See Creating action flows to automate processes across Zendesk and external systems.

Changing the field type for the Purchase cost field

This release changes the Purchase cost field from a decimal field type to a currency field type. By default, it uses the account's billing currency.

Note: After the field contains values, the currency type can't be changed. If you are already using the Purchase cost field, when this change rolls out to your account, the currency type will be permanently set to the account's billing currency.

Why is Zendesk making this change?

IT asset management works best when the asset experience is tailored to each organization's unique needs. We received customer feedback that some of the standard asset fields don't apply to their use-cases and that cost data displayed without currency labels is difficult to use for finance and procurement reporting.

This release addresses this feedback by allowing admins to control which standard fields are visible to agents and the order in which asset fields appear, and converting the purchase cost field to be a currency field type. Now admins can:

  •  Remove irrelevant fields from agent forms to speed up asset record creation and reduce cognitive load.
  • Prioritize the information agents need most by controlling field display order.
  • Track asset costs with proper currency formatting that reflects how finance and procurement teams report on spending.

What do I need to do?

No action is required. These changes will automatically be available to accounts with IT asset management.
