Zendesk is excited to announce the general availability of the MCP client, which makes it possible to use the tools on an MCP server in action flows to fetch data and take actions in external systems.
This announcement includes the following topics:
What is changing?
With this release, admins can connect their Zendesk account to MCP (model context protocol) servers. Both public MCP servers from vendors such as Asana, Stripe, or Github, and private MCP servers are supported.
When you connect Zendesk to an MCP server, the MCP client finds all of the tools the MCP server has and lets you choose which ones you want to expose for use in action flows. When used in action flows, the MCP server tools can be used by AI-powered features, such as auto assist, AI agents, and custom agents (EAP), streamlining how you fetch data from and perform actions in external systems and expanding what you can do with Zendesk in your business workflows.
Why is Zendesk making this change?
Zendesk understands that there is a lot of setup and maintenance overhead involved in using traditional integrations based on APIs including the need to manage separate connections between each Zendesk feature and the external system and API wrappers for each API endpoint you use.
MCP streamlines this process so you can reuse a single MCP connection across a whole range of features, without needing to create separate API wrappers. It also provides a mechanism for the server to describe all of its tools and make them available for use with a single click.
What do I need to do?
This feature is available to Zendesk Suite Growth plans and above and Support Team plans and above. To get started, see Connecting to MCP servers and using MCP tools in action flows.
If you participated in the MCP Client EAP, note that MCP connections are now managed on the Connections page in Admin Center. Your MCP connections and any action flows that use them are unaffected, but any browser bookmarks or internal documentation pointing to the previous MCP connections page should be updated.
