What is changing?

Action builder is introducing a new Actions log feature that provides admins with real-time visibility into action flow and action executions. From a run’s detail view, admins can open a trace to understand the execution path, inspect step-level details, and diagnose failures.

What you can see in run history

  • Run state: In progress, successful, or failed
  • Execution timing: execution timestamps
  • Invocation source or trigger: Identifies how the run was initiated
  • Workflow progress: Completed steps for action flows
  • 30-day retention: Access up to 30 days of run history
  • Filtering and sorting: Filter runs by date, status, invocation source or trigger, and action type, or sort the history by execution timestamp

Understand each run with trace details

Open any run to review its step-by-step trace, including:

  • Step-by-step timing
  • Inputs and outputs for steps, actions, and triggers
  • Conditional evaluations
  • Action credit consumption
  • Contextual error messages for failed steps

Why is Zendesk making this change?

When an automation fails, admins should not have to rely on trial and error or wait for support to diagnose it. Action logs and trace makes troubleshooting self-serve, helps teams resolve issues faster, and builds confidence in automations that support business-critical workflows.

This new feature is designed to reduce time to value, make failures easier to diagnose, and give customers the operational visibility they need as they automate more work with action builder.

What do I need to do?

No action is required to enable this feature. It is available to all customers on eligible Suite and Support plans.

To access the new feature:

  1. Open an action flow or action in action builder.
  2. Select View run history from the overflow menu.
  3. Select a specific run to open its detailed trace.
