Can I have Zendesk Text without Zendesk Talk?

No, Text is a feature of Talk and therefore you will need a Talk account to be able to use it.

Zendesk should reconsider. We will never sign for unwanted talk accounts just to get a text service. From what I have read there are potentially many other users out there that would gladly pay you for a text service but not if it is bundled with an expensive talk service.

Zendesk text should be just another channel, like facebook or twitter, with variable cost of sending and receiving texts. It should not be bundled with talk.

Our business is in the same situation - we currently pay for Zendesk Support and Zendesk Chat.
We really want to use the Zendesk Text feature so that we can create and log jobs in our support system, however we do not want to purchase the Talk system, as we already have our own phone systems we pay for and do not want double.
We would definitely purchase the feature if it was possible to purchase separately!

Yes Mhairi, this is exactly why we will never purchase Zendesk Talk just to get the SMS feature. We already have a phone system that is far more comprehensive in specific features required by our business. Zendesk Talk will never be able to meet theses requirements.
Zendesk could at minimum offer them as separate channels but offer a bundle discount if both are subscribed to.
