As you probably already know, the new Zendesk Support interface is loaded with handy keyboard shortcuts that allow you to execute routine tasks such as opening a new ticket or setting a ticket without lots of mousing around and clicking. They’re great productivity enhancers. You can find the list of keyboard shortcuts in the User menu in the top right corner of Zendesk Support.
But what if I were to tell you that I found an even easier way to use these keyboard shortcuts and reduce the number of keyboards clicks I need to make?
What’s my secret? One very inexpensive mouse: the Logitech G600 MMO (massively multiplayer online game) Gaming Mouse. This mouse combined with Zendesk’s powerful keyboard shortcuts really boosted my productivity because it helped me reduce the amount of hand movements I was making when I was switching between different tabs and updating tickets.
The G600 mouse is marketed to the PC gaming crowd to be used with button rich MMO games. The great thing about this mouse is that you have full control over what the buttons do, which means that you can assign a keyboard shortcut to each button.
In just five minutes using the Logitech Gaming Software I was able to assign 21 keyboard shortcuts to the side buttons on the mouse.
I set up a key combination that makes sense for the way I work, but of course you can program your own mouse to your own preferences.
You can also switch profiles on the mouse, which means that you don’t have to re-program it every time you want to use it in Zendesk Support. The side LEDs can also be programmed to show a different colour depending on which profile you’re using. Obviously my Zendesk Support profile is bright green.
Once I had it set up, I was using keyboard shortcuts without touching the keyboard or lifting my hand from the mouse.
