Hey everyone, thanks for bearing with us while we figured this one out. Just uploaded v0.11.2 which should address the problem of Quicktab not picking up on some links.

    What happened?

A number of vendors implemented a so-called "Safe Link" feature. Simplified, this feature dynamically re-writes links as you click on them to first go through a service which checks to make sure the link you are clicking is not malicious.

The Quicktab extension specifically looks for user initiated navigation events. When the safe link redirect occurs, the extension does not notice it.

You may have experience this issue in popular applications such as Gmail, Outlook.com and Slack.

    How was it fixed?

Quicktab will now listen for an additional event. The previous event for user initiated navigation still applies, but the extension will now also check every time a navigation event happens.

These events are mutually exclusive, and you may notice a small difference. When clicking on links that have a redirect (i.e. from Slack, Mimecast, Gmail, etc.) there will be a small delay as the redirect must happen. This is outside the control of the extension. If Slack's redirect is slow, then the extension will seem slow. Clicking on direct links (without a redirect) should remain very snappy.

How can I get this fix?

You shouldn't have to do anything; Chrome will auto-update extensions. To be sure you have the right version, open Chrome's extension management page and check that "Zendesk Quicktab" is on v0.11.2 or higher.

You can force Chrome to update extensions. On the Chrome extension management page, check the box "Developer Mode" and then click "Update extensions now". It's recommended you turn Developer Mode off after this is done.

I've loved this extension in Chrome for quite a while, but I'm now trying out Firefox Quantum.  FF seems to be much less of a mem hog compared to Chrome, but I really miss the ZD Quicktab extension.

Is FF support on the roadmap?

    Hey John!

I'm going to need to do some poking around on this one...Jake left Zendesk a number of months ago and I don't know who (if anyone) has taken on the Quicktab extension. I'll see what I can find out for you!

    Jake,

Sad, sad day. With the release of Chrome 45 and NPAPI being permanently disabled, we are moving to Firefox. We have 2 legacy web apps that many customers still use, built in Silverlight. This means, sniff sniff, no more Quicktab!!!

For now we are going to try a addon called Tab Merger. But it's just not the same without you Quicktab, sniff, sniff.

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-merger/

Any plans for a Firefox Quicktab?

I want to leave a tip for you guys using this extension.

I had chosen All agent links in Link detection. But I found that as soon as I navigated away from pages like admin>macro while editing, when I returned to the admin section, Zendesk reloaded the whole macro page - so I had to go and find my macro again. Pretty annoying.

When I use the setting Just ticket links, like below, I can edit a macro, switch to a ticket and try out the macro, and then switch back to the macro page, and Zendesk will remember where I left off.

Is anyone having a problem with this? It was working great for me for months, but just stopped working in the past few days.

A few of our agents have begun using Firefox due to various issue with Chrome.  It's going great for them except for they miss Quicktab!  We'd love it if you could re-open the question of developing a Firefox extension.  Thanks!

RAVE: I love this app, saves me from having so many tabs open.

FEATURE REQUEST: One thing I would like to request though... Can this be modified to be compatible with the URL's that get created from the "Copy and Share this Search Query" button that is at the right end of the search bar? Currently, when I have the app enabled, the links do not do the search, it just sends me to the search page. Disabling the app allows the links to work properly.

    Please and thank you!

Rolling this out to my team today. It's a god-send with our current phone integration which forces each new ticket into a brand new tab!

The latest version (0.11.1) doesn't support the .../agent/#/... URLs. Ordinarily, this wouldn't be a problem, but we use Zapier to post things into Slack and they use the old format for the URLs. I'm raising an issue with them too :)

I concur.. with the last update that was posted.. this is just wonderful.

It seems to be working now after uninstalling and reinstalling the extension.

For anyone who hasn't followed Joel's link to the main issue post -- there's a great workaround mentioned there (refresh the new browser tab).

This tool is fantastic. The only "known issue" I can think of is:

For those using Google SSO, and have to re-authenticate their browser every 8 hours, if there's un-saved data in >1 tab, data will be lost during the re-authentication. I don't know that this is any more of an issue than the 8-hour forced refresh.

That said.. is there any reason to keep this tool labelled as Beta?

Is this still being maintained?  It is not working for me in the current version of Chrome on macOS, and the "options" menu item is grayed out.

Zendesk, by nature, is more Chrome-friendly.

A Firefox version would be fantastic! Chrome doesn't work for a number of our web-based apps for our Mac OS users, so they only use Firefox and Safari. This extension is a real boon, but not having it in Firefox is a huge drain.

And not to get too picky about it, but the Firefox addon frameworks are almost identical to Chrome so that dev would have a much easier time of supporting both browsers...

    Hey Nicole & Jessie,

Any updates on this? We've got some issues with some ZendeskApps not loading correctly and configurations not being found. One of the suggested solutions was to try Quicktab to prevent having all the apps having to load every time an agent clicks a link to a ticket,  but I'm wary having our teams rely on two year old beta software. The problem it solves is a common one and I think it would be great to officially support.

Can you please find out if there plans from Zendesk to support this application (and potentially a Firefox release)?

    Thanks very much!

Last I checked it should be possible to do near the same thing with Firefox. We just managed to extract all of the Chrome specific logic into their own modules so we can easily re-use the same codebase for Quicktab in Chrome as we will for other browsers. That was the big re-factor in v0.11.0.

Mozilla have changed their Firefox addons though, so I'm not sure if our previous prototype still stands. We'll soon see!

It still works well for me (version 0.11.6) on Windows and Mac. The options are accessible by left-clicking on the green link icon in the Chrome toolbar (the icon is green only when the Zendesk tab is active). As far as I can tell, all Chrome extensions automatically have an options item on the context (right-click) menu; some of them use options and other don't, in which case it is greyed out, as it is in this extension.

If it's not working, try doing a hard reload of this browser tab.

As you'll see in that other thread, I've pinged Jake to see what I can find out about the issue. I'll post what I find over there. :)

Thanks Jake. Tried Tab-Merger. It terrible. Just closes the new tab and reloads the existing tab and you loose any existing ticket tabs. Really useless.

10 or so firefox beta testers when you are ready. Good luck.

Hi Jonathan.. I have this installed now, and I don't get any developer warning.. perhaps paste a screenshot?

    Or, post that here:

Thanks for passing that along here, Jonathan! Works like a charm.

You can move this down your stack for now if you like. I tried out Firefox 57 (Quantum) for a bit more than a week, and found too many issues with various other things that I can't live without - besides Zendesk, the Lastpass extension was acting a bit funky, etc...

I've since gone back to Chrome.

Is this the source of the Chrome developer warning popup every time I start Chrome?

@Matthew: Hmm, seems to be fine in my testing. Will open up a ticket with you.

Sounds good, John! Thanks for letting me know. :)
