Removal of the Classic Zendesk agent interface from Zendesk Follow

Announced on Development ends Removal
November 30, 2015 May 2, 2016 August 1, 2016
The Classic Zendesk agent interface reached its End of Life date on August 1, 2016. You can no longer access this deprecated feature.

The Classic Zendesk agent interface is being removed from Zendesk. That is the agent interface that was the standard before the release of the new Zendesk agent interface in September, 2012.

We will discontinue development and support of the Classic interface on May 2, 2016, and you will no longer be able to access the Classic interface beginning August 1, 2016. If you are currently using the Classic Zendesk agent interface, you need to switch to the new Zendesk agent interface.

This article covers the following topics:

What does this mean?

Between the announcement and end of development, Zendesk will not make any feature enhancements to Zendesk Classic, but will continue to make minor bug and security fixes at our discretion.

When development ends on May 2, 2016, Zendesk will no longer address bugs and minor issues specific to the Classic Zendesk agent interface. We will continue to resolve any major breakage in functionality until the end of life date.

On May 2, 2016, Zendesk will no longer provide support for the Classic interface. We will continue to support efforts to migrate from Classic to the new Zendesk interface.

After the removal date of August 1, 2016, you and your agents will no longer be able to access the Classic Zendesk agent interface. You need to switch to the new Zendesk agent interface before this date.

If you do not switch before August 1, 2016, you and your agents will not be able to access the Classic interface, and will be automatically switched to the new Zendesk interface.

Why is Zendesk removing this?

A new agent interface was released in September, 2012.

Maintaining an older version of the agent interface, when a new, more powerful version is available, limits our ability to ensure a valuable experience with the new functionality and takes time away from supporting the new functionality.

Am I affected?

If you or your agents are using the Classic Zendesk agent interface, you are affected. The Classic Zendesk agent interface looks like this:

What do I need to do?

The Classic Zendesk agent interface is replaced by the new Zendesk agent interface that was released in September, 2012. The new interface is a single page app, with a multi-tab interface. It supports an apps framework, that you can use to customize and extend your Zendesk, and offers many new features.

You need to switch your Zendesk, including all of your agents, to the new Zendesk agent interface before August 1st, 2016.
