Email is in use by a user error message when adding support address Follow

Issue symptoms

When you try to add a support email address, the following error appears: "Email is in use by a user. Remove it from the user before adding it here."

Conditions

A user is associated with an email address that you want to add as a support email address.

Cause and resolution

  1. Search for the email using native search.
  2. Open the user profile of the user with the email from the User(s) tab in the search results.
  3. Click on the user's email and select edit email and change it to another email address.

This will free up the email to be added as a support address.
