Question

How do I set a user's external ID? Where can I see the external ID after it's been set?

Answer

To set the external ID

The external ID for a user can be set during a bulk user import or via the API. 

To view the external ID

The external ID can be found from their profile page, in the bottom left corner, with the last login metadata. 

Note: External IDs are not associated with users by default. You must set them if you would like to view this data on end-users' profiles. See definition here

    Hey Chris!

    When you're viewing the user profile in your Zendesk, you'll need to scroll the column on the left side all the way to the bottom. It'll look something like this: 

    Bear in mind that the external id will not be visible if you haven't imported it into your Zendesk. An external id is a piece of information that you add yourself; it's not generated by Zendesk.
