How do I add labels to my articles? Follow

Is there a way to also use these labels in the UI, e.g. for filtering results or for getting articles with the same label when clicking it on a certain article?

    Hey Siska!

There's another thread about this in our Community that I believe will answer your question. You can find it here: How to show article labels.

We're getting a lot of searches coming up with no response because of synonymous words being used. The search bar seems pretty particular about the exact word being used (e.g. 'reversal' won't find an article with the word reverse, 'payrun' won't find pay run with a space, etc).

Adding in labels seemed like a good solution, but the labels field seems to be missing on most of our Knowledge Base articles. Some articles that we've applied labels to in the past have the field showing, but it's greyed out and we can't edit it.

Does our subscription not include labels, or have we got a setting mucked up somewhere?

    Hi Jessy,

Thanks for the answer, but that article describes how to show the labels on the article itself. What I would like to do is show some kind of tag cloud or other list of used labels in the entire knowledge base on the home page, so that people can click a certain label and see all linked articles, regardless of the section they're in. Do you know of a way to make that possible?

    Hi Nicky!

As you'll see in the little graphic at the top of this article, article labels are available on the Professional and Enterprise plans. My educated guess here is that you added some articles with labels while you were in a trial (trials are on Professional by default) or on a higher plan level, but then moved to a lower level plan later. When that kind of change is made the labels you already have aren't removed, but you're not able to edit them or add any additional labels.

    Hey Siska! Thanks for clarifying.

I'm not sure whether it's possible to do a tag cloud like you're describing...I'm thinking not, but I'll check with some of our Help Center customization gurus to see if they have any suggestions!

    Hi All,

I have been using Labels with Articles for months and all of a sudden I noticed that the Label field was gone. Just to respond to the above thread, it seems like a pretty simple feature that is odd to remove after a trial. Tags seem ubiquitous to many sites these days and not anything super special. Just wondering why that would be gated.

    Hey Jeremy -

Did you change plan types? I checked into your account, and it looks like you're currently on the Essential plan, which doesn't include Labels - that feature is only available to Professional and Enterprise users.

It it possible to add wildcard characters to the end of label words or phrases? The goal being that it will pull the plural or other tenses of a word or phrase?

Example: Label* as a label on an article would be searchable with keywords: label, labels, labeling, etc.

    Hey Eura,

Unfortunately it is not possible to use wildcard labels at this time. You would need to add a label for each version of the word in order to have them be used when searching.

Is there a way to add one label to multiple articles?  (e.g. Add the same label to every article in a section or category?)

    Hi Scott,

No, you cannot add labels to multiple articles at a time. You have to add the label to each individual article.

Is there really no way to add a label on a Category?  We'd like to use labels to indicate what to show in the Contextual Help items in the Zendesk web widget, but in most cases, the individual articles are way too specific.  We want to send them to a whole Category like "Getting started with Brainscape" or "Troubleshooting the Flashcard Editor".

Otherwise, it's virtually impossible to pick "just" three articles to display on particular screens.  Any help here?

    Hi Andrew,

You're right, there's not a way to add a label to a category. Sorry about that.

What you might want to do is create an article with links to all the resources for a specific topic, such as Getting Started with Brainscape.

We do a lot of articles like that in our Help Center. Two examples:

Then you can add your label to that article.

Of course it's a manual process to set up and maintain these article with links to all the resources. But I find that they are very valuable to customers, so, for us, it's worth the effort.
