November 11, 2016 December 31, 2016 March 1, 2017

The Zendesk for Windows Phone mobile app is being removed from Zendesk. We will discontinue development on December  31, 2016, and you will no longer be able to access the app beginning on March 1, 2017.

If you are currently using the Windows phone app, you need to migrate to either Android or iOS for a tailored mobile experience.

This article covers the following topics:

What does this mean?

Between the announcement and end of development, Zendesk will not make any feature enhancements to the Windows Phone app, but will continue to make minor bug and security fixes at our discretion.

When development ends on December 31, 2016, Zendesk will no longer address bugs and minor issues specific to the Windows Phone app. We will continue to resolve any major breakage in functionality until the end of life date. The app will be removed from the app store for new downloads.

On March 1, 2017, Zendesk will no longer provide support for the Windows Phone app. You will no longer be able to access the app.

Why is Zendesk removing this?

The Windows Phone app makes up for a fraction of a percent of all mobile app traffic.

The core Zendesk Support product is constantly being updated with new features. These features are not automatically inherited into the mobile apps and occasionally it will break the mobile apps if nothing is done.

Unfortunately, the usage of our Windows Phone app is too low to justify ongoing support to ensure the app stays align with the new features and functionality of Zendesk Support and provides a valuable experience to our Windows Phone users.

Am I affected?

If you are currently using the Windows Phone app, you are affected.

What do I need to do?

You'll be able to access Zendesk via the browser, however for a tailored mobile experience, you will need to migrate to iOS or Android.

Perhaps if the Windows Phone app wasn't so buggy a lot more people would have been using it, and it would've constituted a lot more of the mobile traffic. Many of the staff in my company use Windows Phone (we are a Microsoft Gold Partner) but I know the majority don't bother using the app due to how buggy it is. Rather than discontinuing it, a better idea would've been to fix it.

Additionally - The Windows Phone app was the main reason we went for Zendesk over a competing product. Had this app not been available, we would have gone for the alternative.

As Mark said, the main reason we Chose Zendesk over another competitor was the Windows Phone App. Its Been Buggy at best, completely un usable at the worst times. in my opinion it is un professional to half bake a product, then blame the lack of users using it as a reason to stop supporting it. Perhaps if the app worked properly it would of seen quite a bit more use (In fact, all our Agents would be)

Is there at least a mobile web gui that we can use on our phones? The full GUI is not very user friendly on a mobile phone, and ironically keeps advertising the Zendesk Support app.
