Can I edit the meta description tags in an article?

No, there is no native way to edit the meta description tags at the article level. You can, however, adjust metadata in the Document Head, but there is no way to do it for specific articles.

Excellent! This is what I needed to know. However how to I adjust the metadata in the Document Head? Can you link me to that article in your answer?
Hi Margaret!
There isn't an article that deals with this specifically, but you can find the document header by going to your Help Center and clicking Guide Admin > Customize Design > View Theme > 3 dot button > Edit code > document_head.hbs.
Then just make the adjustments you need to there!
