|Announced on||Development ends||Support ends|
|February 2019||March 2019||March 2019|
If you are currently using a device running Android KitKat (4.4 - 4.4.4) we advise upgrading to a device that supports Lollipop (5.0 - 5.1.1) and above (Marshmallow, Nougat, Oreo and Pie). You can find out more about which Android version names map to OS version numbers by clicking here.
Why is Zendesk removing this?
Maintaining support for older Android versions limits our ability to ensure a reliable, high performance mobile experience and limits our ability to deliver new functionality. In addition, the latest Android versions provide our developers with better capabilities to improve the efficiency, reliability and performance of the app.
Am I affected?
If you or your agents are currently using the Zendesk Support Android App on KitKat (e.g. 4.4 - 4.4.4), then this announcement applies to you.
You can check your operating system version (on stock android devices) by viewing:
Settings > System > System update
For other devices such as Samsung, this can be different, but usually settings follow a similar path.
What can I do?
We recommend (where possible) upgrading to a device using Android 5.0 or above, to ensure you continue to receive supported updates for our app.
What happens when support ends?
We’ll release a version of the app which will only be available for devices running Lollipop (5.0) or above.
Devices running previous versions of Android will not see the update appear as available in the Play Store and will no longer be supported with bug fixes or improvements. However if you can't upgrade to a device using Android 5.0+, you will still be able to use your existing Zendesk app, providing it's installed before we stop support - it will just not receive new updates in the future.
