We are pleased to announce another significant improvement to Web Widget performance— optimized translations.
Now, when the Web Widget loads on your website, rather than loading translation data for all supported languages, only translation data for your visitor’s locale loads. For example, in the typical case where your visitor’s locale setting only requires one locale, your visitor now downloads approximately 5 KB of compressed JSON data, compared to the 194 KB of compressed data that was downloaded in the past. That could result in up to a 95% reduction in the translations size and up to a 20% reduction in the overall compressed widget size.
More importantly, once decompressed, your visitor’s browser now parses and interprets less code, meaning better performance and load times, especially on mobile devices.
What are you working on next to improve performance?
We intend on utilising a more efficient compression algorithm called Brotli. This will further reduce the package size of compressed data being downloaded by your visitors’ browsers. To learn more about the potential benefits of Brotli, see this article.
