We're excited to announce the General Availability of Custom Objects. Custom Objects makes it possible to natively store and connect new data entities -- like your Products and Subscriptions -- and model your entire business in Zendesk.
Before Custom Objects, customers were limited to modeling custom data using Custom Fields on the standard Zendesk objects like tickets, users, and organizations.
With Custom Objects, it’s now possible to natively store any business entity -- like Products and Subscriptions -- directly in Zendesk Support. You can also extend the standard Zendesk data model to include these Custom Objects by creating relationships between Custom Objects and standard objects -- making it easy to give your agents a 360° view of their customers and business in a single platform.
Best of all, you can now build powerful apps that leverage Custom Objects to help agents to do more in Zendesk. With Custom Objects, your agents can update products, manage orders and subscriptions, and even track connected devices - all made possible by Sunshine, the new Zendesk Platform.
How does it work?
To use Custom Objects, navigate to the Admin page in Zendesk Support. Click on the Custom Objects link under the Manage section:
The link takes you to a new dedicated administration page where you can activate Custom Resources:
After activation, you’ll be able to define new Custom Object and Relationships types with a point-and-click interface. Developers can also create Custom Objects and Relationships and load data into Custom Object types using the Custom Objects API.
Then you can use the Zendesk Apps framework to display and interact with data stored in Custom Objects, giving agents a more complete view of the customer relationship with your business right.
Who has access to Custom Objects?
Custom Objects is generally available for all customers on Support Enterprise plans and above. And this is just the beginning for Custom Objects. Over the next several months, we’ll be releasing new updates and features for Custom Objects to address even more custom Zendesk support needs. Stay tuned!
