Can I create a Chat department when the Zendesk Agent Workspace is enabled?
If you attempt to create a department within Chat, after the Agent Workspace is enabled, you will be redirected back to Support to create a new group instead.
When you switch to the Agent Workspace, Chat departments are merged into Support groups. Zendesk merges agents in groups, not departments. This is a permanent change.
