Content blocks let you create content that you can share between multiple articles. This is useful for content such as disclaimers or boilerplate text that you want to create once, maintain centrally, and reuse in multiple places.
The reusable content is stored in a content block, which exists independently from article content in the help center. You can use content blocks in any article that is enabled to use them. In this article, regular text refers to any article text that you create that is not in a content block.
Guide admins and agents with permission to update content blocks can edit and update content blocks. When you update a content block, it is automatically updated in the articles in which it is used without impacting the article status. See Managing content blocks in articles.
Agents and Guide admins can work with content blocks.
Enabling content blocks for an article
When you create a new article or edit an article that does not already use content blocks, you can enable content blocks for that article.
To enable content blocks
- Create a new article or edit an existing article that does not already use content blocks.
Note: If you are creating a new article or have made edits to an exiting article, save or publish the article.
- To the right of your article, in the content blocks dialog, click Enable to activate the content block feature in your article.
Activation takes a few seconds, then the message changes to specify that the article is now using content blocks. You are ready to start reusing content (see Creating and inserting reusable content and Managing content blocks in articles).
Disabling content blocks for an article
You can disable content blocks for any article that is already enabled to use them.
To disable content blocks
- Open an article that is enabled to use content blocks.
- Click Disable content blocks to deactivate the content blocks feature in this article.
Note: Deactivation applies to that article only. It does not apply to any content blocks you created from the content of that article. This means that any content blocks you used or created in the article are converted to regular text in that article. In addition, the article can no longer access any other reusable content (unless you reactivate content blocks for that article).The content block exists independently from the article in the help center. Any content in the article that you defined as being in a content block continues to exist, and you can continue to reuse it in any other article that has content blocks enabled.
- Confirm your decision by clicking Disable content blocks.
Deactivation takes a few seconds, then the article is disabled for content blocks. Any previously reused content converts to regular text and the message in the content blocks dialog changes. You can reactivate content blocks at any time.
