We're excited to announce that Zendesk is optimizing the rules for updating the last activity date in Sell. This means you can better track when the last sales activity was logged with a lead, contact, or deal.
This announcement answers the following questions:
What's changing?
Previously in Sell, the Last activity date calculated field was automatically updated with every update or modification to a lead, contact, or deal. Specifically, the last activity date was updated for every call, visit, email sent, and note or task logged. It was also updated with every edit action (such as changing fields and custom fields, or removing a tag).
Now, the last activity date field changes only when there’s new activity for leads, contacts, and deals:
- The Last activity date updates - when someone sends an email, completes a task, converts a lead to a contact, or logs a note, call, text, or visit.
- The Last activity date no longer updates - when someone edits or tags a lead, contact, or deal.
For more information, see Sell standard calculated fields.
Why did Zendesk make this change?
At Sell, we want to help you stay on top of your follow-ups, outreach, and sales tasks. With this change, we’re providing a single data point for you to know when someone from your sales team last contacted a customer or logged activity with them.
What do I need to do?
You don't need to do anything. This update is automatically rolling out to all Sell accounts.

Hey!
So now if I need to create a smart list filtered by the date a lead is unqualified, what is the right way to do it?
Hi Nicolas Ghitti,
We are currently working with you in a private ticket, and we are waiting for an update from our Sell Team. I'll mark this as tentatively solved. Please, continue the assistance in the private ticket to avoid duplicate support tickets.
I will reach you via email with an update over this matter.
Sincerely,
Julio H | Technical Support Specialist | Zendesk EMEA
We are disappointed with this change. We are managing thousands of customer contacts in Sell and need to know when a lead is converted to a deal, or any other type of internal work that might be done on a lead, deal, or contact. This change may benefit some companies, but it is hamstringing ours.
Please add this data back. You could have two columns, one for external activity (eg. exchanging emails with a client or lead) and one for internal activity (e.g., converting lead to deal, adding a task, etc.).
Thank you.
Hi Bill Beigel,
Last activity date still gets updated when a lead is converted to a deal, a task is completed, note added, visit logged - not just on external communication. What has changed is that last activity date is no longer updated when a field on a lead, contact or deal is modified or tag is assigned.
Can you specify what piece of information you are missing after the change?
Thank you,
Ewa
