We’re happy to announce the rollout of emergency calling and Enhanced 911 (E911) for certain countries in Zendesk Talk.
This announcement includes these sections:
We’ve added new functionality that allows you to do these things:
- You can now make emergency calls in Zendesk Talk with phone numbers from these countries: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, France, Germany, and Austria.
- You can now associate an emergency address with a phone number in Zendesk Talk for Enhanced 911 (US and Canada only).
What's changing and why?
Here are more details about using these new features.
The ability to make emergency calls is now available for certain countries when using Zendesk Talk (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, France, Germany, and Austria). In the event of an emergency, agents can call emergency services using the Talk call console when outbound calling is enabled. Outbound calls can be placed to emergency services using the country's relevant emergency telephone number e.g. 911, 999, or 112.
In the United States and Canada, Zendesk Talk additionally supports E911. With E911, an emergency address can be associated with any United States or Canada phone number. Calls made from numbers with an associated emergency address are routed directly to a local Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) serving the address, instead of going to a national emergency call center. The call automatically passes the caller’s phone number and corresponding address information to the 911 dispatcher answering the call, saving valuable seconds in an emergency situation.
Do I need to do anything?
You don't have to do anything. This update is automatically rolling out to all accounts from today. However, if you want to, you can associate an emergency address to a phone number.
