Web Widgets (messaging and Classic) will no longer be supported on Internet Explorer 11

The Zendesk Web Widgets will no longer be supported on Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) as of April 20, 2023.

This announcement answers the following questions:

What is changing? 

The Zendesk messaging Web Widget and Web Widget (Classic) will no longer be supported on IE11 as of April 20, 2023. The following browsers will continue to be supported moving forward:

• Desktop computers:
• Google Chrome: Latest two versions
• Microsoft Internet Explorer: Edge
• Mozilla Firefox: Latest two versions
• Apple Safari: Latest version
• Mobile devices:
• iOS Safari: Latest two versions
• Android browser: Latest version
• Chrome Mobile for Android and iOS: Latest version

Am I impacted?

This impacts anyone using either Web Widget with IE11. Our records show only a very small percentage of Web Widget users use IE11.

Why is Zendesk making this change?

Our decision to remove Web Widget support for IE11 follows Microsoft’s June 15, 2022 retirement announcement. This will ensure our customers and their end users continue to have an optimal experience when using a Web Widget.

What happens when support ends?

In most cases, users will continue to be able to use the Web Widget on IE11, but it will no longer be supported with bug fixes, improvements and won’t necessarily work as expected.
