Zendesk is pleased to announce a new way to import organization data.
What is changing?
Zendesk is progressively replacing the current bulk data importing functionality with the data importer. This new, more intuitive tool will provide a consistent experience across types of imports. In this beta release, we're introducing the Data importer page in Admin Center and supporting the import of new organization data.
The Data importer provides:
- A new and improved interface
- In the future, a centralized location for all imports in Admin Center
- Imports of files up to 1 GB in size (increasing the previous limit of 2,000 rows per file)
- Full logging of your imports
- Imports of all standard and custom organization fields
As of September 25, 2023, the data importer beta supports bulk importing new custom object records.
In future releases, we'll add support for using the data importer to import user data and to update existing organizations, custom object, and user records, too.
Why is Zendesk making this change?
We listened to your feedback and decided it was time to improve the data import experience. Previously, you could import only 2,000 records at a time. We recognized the need to import data on a much larger scale, so the Data importer supports imports files up to 1 GB in size.
Additionally, the experience for importing data was outdated. There is a completely redesigned user interface for the Data importer. The page was designed with future expansion in mind. Today we're supporting organization imports. In the future we'll add custom object and user imports. If we need to support additional import types in the future, we've laid the groundwork for a consistent and intuitive user experience.
What do I need to do?
You don't need to do anything. This beta feature is being rolled out to all Zendesk Suite plans. The next time you need to import new organization data, use the Data importer page.

Hey Carl, is this just for org data only? Or end-user too?
This is an excellente news, when will we be able to test if we have a Zendesk Suite plan?
Hi Amie (successcx),
Yes this is currently for importing organization data only.
Under a Suite plan, you should now be able to find it in your Admin Center > Tools > Data importer.
Hey Carl Joseph
Are you also going to build a way to bulk delete orgs from the admin UI? We can bulk delete users from the UI, but not orgs. It would be awesome if the feature set was aligned and we could bulk delete orgs from the UI - without having to utilise the API. :) This would be ace as well!
Hi Arianne Batiles
I think that's a slight typo. I can see the data importer under:
> Admin Centre > Objects and Rules > Tools > Data Importer
Very happy with this!! Thank you
Hi
I keep getting an error when importing using the beta Data Importer tool.
The first thing I believe is incorrect is the csv column header format requirements. The article says that custom org fields should use custom_fields.<field key>.
However, when I view the mapping data, it looks like the importer wants organization_fields.<field key> (see below).
However, even if I use organization_fields.<field key> the import still gives me an error of: "Row 1 failed to import to zen:organization. Invalid payload." (see below). However all fields map correctly (when I use organization_fields.<field key>) and the file is a csv with UTF-8.
I'm guessing as this is still in beta it's either not working or buggy and we should stick with the original way to bulk import Orgs?

Everytime I have attempted to upload a csv to import, I receive the following error:
Hi Chad Susa (Gravity CX - Zendesk Partner). Thanks for picking that up!
The standard (non custom) fields can just be referred to by their field key (e.g. name, domain).
That `organization_fields.parent_company` you see there is a custom field on your Organization object. I've raised it with the team and we'll look into correcting the inconsistency in naming here.
Hi - Is the Org Data Importer for "new" not "updated records?

Doing some testing and getting this error when trying to update an existing record:
Hi Chris Shortall. Yes, during this beta period, the data importer can only be used to add new organizations. If you need to update existing organizations, you can still use the Import organizations page in Admin Center to perform bulk updates. See Using a CSV import to update existing organization data.
