+1 for this, it would be great to have more configurable control over search filters.

@John Yu, there are a couple of ways to work around this. You can use {{search scoped=true}} for the category, but it seems to not work on the section according to https://support.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/205749628-Improving-the-scope-restrictions-for-the-search-bar

Another option is to develop your own search, and use javascript to add URL parameters to the search query (e.g. &section=sectionId).

Thanks Stephen, appreciate the suggestions. Building custom javascript is a doable option but might be challenging for some less tech-savvy users.

@Zendesk, it would be nice to have this functionality built-in as it seems trivial considering the sections are already defined.

    Hi John and Stephen -

You can filter by Category, which may not entirely solve your problem but should help. After searching, click "By Type" then select "Knowledge Base" then click on the category. This will then display only the results that match your query from within that Category.

Let us know if you have further questions.

    @Nicole

This looks like an interim solution for me, however I do not see the options on my Search results page.
    Were can I enable this?

    Thanks, Jacques

    Hi all -

My mistake, I thought this was available to all users, but it turns out that this was a function that was being tested but has not yet been approved for general availability. We will be sure to let you know if and when it becomes available, but at the moment there's no ETA nor guarantee.

Hi! Was there any progress made on this? Being able to filter articles from the search bar would be a great addition to a help center, as not to confuse end-users. The 'scoped' attribute doesn't work with the 'instant' attribute, so that isn't really helpful.

    Thanks again.

I am following up on this feature like others. Is there any current way to filter search results by category or by section?

    Hey All,

We released a feature called Unified Search late last year that allows you to filter results by Knowledge Base vs. Community as well as filtering into Categories.

You may also want to looked at scoped search within categories or sections. There's additional documentation on the theme helpers here

    Thanks!

Ryan McGrew - I tried the link for Unified Search but I'm getting a message saying I am not authorized to view the content. I can't seem to find any information on it. Is Unified Search no longer available?

    Hey Kirsten Flores,

Looks like the product announcement was archived as we released it a while ago and it's now the default experience for new customers. If you're using a custom theme, you can find information on implementing the unified search results experience here.

    Thanks!

Thanks, Ryan McGrew. Does that functionality allow filtering by category and/or section, or just by article vs community post?

It allow you to filter down by article / community post, and then into categories or community topics. We have the functionality implemented on our search here at support.zendesk.com if you'd like test it out and see how it works.

    Thanks!

Ryan McGrew what happens if we don't have community? We don't use this feature.

Heather Cook if you're not using community, you'll just be brought directly into the article view with categories available to select from.

    Thanks!
