Adding Interactivity to Articles

  • Mary Jean Kieffer Morishita

    Hi Chellie!

You should be able to accomplish this without a problem in Guide, but you will need to change some security settings. Emily gives a really good run-down of how this works in her comment here: Can I embed a Vimeo or YouTube link in articles using the older Web Portal without opening up the system to security risks?.

The other thing you'll want to double check is that the video is publicly available; if there are any login restrictions on it it won't load properly in your Guide.

Please let us know if you have any other questions!

    Hi Mary,

Appreciate the reply, but it's not what I'm looking for. I am aware of embedding videos. What I am looking for is user-clickable interactions built in HTML (possibly using the <canvas> tag). Is this possible?

    Hi Chellie -

Depending on your Guide plan level this should be doable. On our Guide Professional plan you have full access to the HTML, CSS, and JS of the page. Further, there is also article level source code you can edit and manipulate to make article level customizations which is sounds like you are looking to do. The article source code renders HTML, CSS, JS as well. Be sure "Display unsafe content' is enabled in Guide to allow scripts added to the article source code to properly render.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Chellie

You can try embedding html code from wysiwyg editor (click on code view), and put everything in a div or paragraph tag. Enable unsafe html option from Guide Settings, and test.

I have feeling that should just work fine. If you have a lot of common code that's going to be across all articles, it's better to put those script/css libraries in assets, and link those in article template. You can then just copy paste article specific <canvas>..</canvas> in article content inside a div or p.
