Moving from an open Zendesk to a closed Zendesk

    Hi Brenda,

Since you're moving to a closed Zendesk, this doesn't sound like an issue. Everybody who has submitted a ticket so far will be an end-user. There's no need to delete these user, they simply have to login to submit the ticket.

If the case is that you don't want 90% of them to be able to create a ticket, there is another solution, you could suspend access to the 90% end-users. Then you don't have to delete them.

If you know which end-users should (or shouldn't) suspended, this is a relatively easy task to do in bulk via this API endpoint.

    Hi Kay,

Great! I'll pass this API along to the team and will let you know if they have any follow-up questions. Again, thanks for the help!

    Hi Kay -

I work with Brenda - thanks so much for offering up such a great solution!

I think we might have misspoken, though. I believe a "closed" Zendesk is one where only certain people can read HC articles, in addition to being able to post articles, and submit tickets.

We actually want our HC to be open to everyone to read and post articles, but we want to selectively hide the "Submit a Request" link based on a tag (Paid customer vs. Free Customer, for example).

Do you happen to know if there's a way to update all of the user tags in our Zendesk without deleting any of the users who are currently in it? We definitely want to keep the history.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide!

    Hi Jessica,

I think you could use this API endpoint to update users. You can read more how to add tags to a ticket, organisation or user here.

Thanks so much for your help, Kay! I'll be sure to pass this information along. It looks like your second link might be broken, or I don't have access to that page. Would you mind reposting the "here" link from your post? Thanks again!

That would be this one: https://developer.zendesk.com/rest_api/docs/core/tags#add-tags
