I find it very odd (and slightly unfair) that you cannot allocate a UK +44 (or any other country code) telephone number during the trial period for Talk functionality.
As I'm based in the UK if I want to trial the Talk option I can only use a US number which causes several issues.
- My customers are not going to call a US number as its very expensive
- It would look strange on my website to use a US number
- I don't want to forward all calls to the US and incur a significant cost to the business during the trial period.
It is critical to test the functionality as although it looks great in the promo video, if staff are having issues with it then it may not work for our particular setup. Furthermore, we have trialled several other "online telephone systems" and they invariably have very poor sound quality.
Having discussed this with the zendesk agent I've been informed that there is no way to get a UK number without upgrading to the full zendesk subscription package (and for each one of my team members) which immediately racks up a very hefty bill when I'm just trialling the calls.
There should be an option to trial non-US numbers for the talk functionality because it will not work for everyone and it's extremely risky 1) commit to paying a large amount upfront for a zendesk subscription when it might not work for your business. 2) if the sound quality is poor you risk losing potential customers during the trial period and 3) Even if one decides to route calls to the US number and incur the high costs, you still can't trial outbound calls because they're considered "international" and blocked on the trial account so you're only able to test 50% of the feature.
