    Antonio,

I don't use this feature personally so I can't advise from experience, but hoping this might help:

"Check the Promote URL as parameter box to embed your filter in the dashboard URL. You can type a new value directly in the URL to update your filter."

Your last sentence is the answer.  If you have a filter on the dashboard, such as "Group", and this filter has the values "Support" and "Dev, you can add  Group=Support to your dashboard name, and your dashboard will start as if that value was selected.

I was experimenting with hiding that filter under an object, and publishing multiple versions of the dashboard without me having to manage multiple versions.  IIRC, it acts a little funny, so be sure to thoroughly test your use case.
