Copy and paste functionality within Chat
AnsweredWhen working with customers via Chat, it would be very helpful to be able to copy and paste images into the chat. For instance, if we want to send them instructions from one of our Guide articles that has both text and images/screenshots, when it is pasted in the chat, the text appears but not the images.
I realize that we can send a separate email that includes the whole Guide article (including images), but that diminishes the value of Chat. Customers use chat for its convenience and immediacy, but if we then have to send them a separate email because there are limitations to what can be included into a chat, the convenience factor goes down.
Thank you.

Hi Chris,
It's indeed a nice feature for agent experience! We have picture clipboard feature supported on a selected few browsers and OS's as explained in this post here: https://chat.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/226235688-Labs-Improved-Image-Upload-for-Agents
Try it out and let us know if it helps! :)

Hi Yu,
Am unable to open the link you have provided.
Am not authorized to access this page.
Am looking to cut & paste images in Chat comment box. This can be done for text contents but not for images.
However saved images can be inserted as attachment in Chat.
Can you suggest me please?

Hi Bharath,
The announcement post got archived, which is why you can't see it. The feature is dependent on what browser you are using.
This feature will currently only work for agents who log into Zendesk Chat using the Chrome or Opera browser. This is a restriction in the other browser's supporting the specific API we are using to support this enhancement. Other browsers beyond Chrome/Opera will be able to use this feature once they support the new API properly in future browser updates.
Note: Chrome in Windows can only support copying of images within the browser and cannot copy files from the system and paste in the text input field.
This feature only works for PNG and JPEG files. GIFs will send but will only send the first frame as an image.
This feature will not work for non-image based attachments, like documents (.pdf, .doc, .ppt).

Hi Ramin,
Thank you for getting back to this.
* So as per NOTE I understand, I can paste image in Chat comment box if am coping image from same browser (Chrome) & if am trying to copy from snipping tool or paint.
Is that correct ?
* This feature will currently only work for agents who log into Zendesk Chat using the Chrome or Opera browser
Yes i have logged in to chat in chrome browser, but I dont see any features working for me.
Can you please clarify ?

Hi Bharath,
If the file types are the ones mentioned earlier, it should work fine. If you are not seeing it work in Chrome for the file types mentioned, please email support@zendesk.com and we can investigate the issue further.
Thanks,
Ramin

This thread is a year old, and the clipboard in the chat does not work in any browser. What is the point of such a chat, then?

HI Варвара Шкатова,
As Ramin said in the comment above, if you're still having issues with supported file types and you are not seeing it work as expected, you will need to initiate a chat with Support to further investigate the issue. It may be a bug unique to your implementation.
