Quite a few of our users have complained about the number of clicks necessary to see the contents of an article when they start from the main landing page.
We have articles with titles like System requirements, Release notes, or Getting started with X software that users expect to access from the main landing page. I'd expect the flexibility to publish articles in a category so users can get directly to the content. Now, I have to create a section, Release notes, for example, and publish the Release notes article in that section - an extra click and an extra layer that seems unnecessarily redundant.
The ability to publish articles in categories allows users to see the contents of an article in one click from the main page, without searching - a better user experience.
