Dynamic Dropdown Fields
Answered
Posted Dec 12, 2023
I'd like to build a request form that contains the list of existing active Group Memberships in Zendesk. I do not want to manually update the dropdown list with the existing groups. Is there a way to pull this data without having to manually update it?

Hi Tyler,
an upload via CSV is possible, currently I do not know if a sunshine conversation would help. A really interesting question. Keep us informed!

Hi Tyler,
You can absolutely do this Using the group memberships API: You can use the Zendesk API to create, update, or delete group memberships for users. You can also list all the group memberships for a user or a group. You can find more information on how to use the group memberships API here
Please let me know if you have any questions on how to do this but without more information on where you're pulling the information from it's hard to give you the exact instructions.

Hey Tyler Duncan -
This is an interesting use-case, but unfortunately not a straight forward answer.
Eric Nelson described the path forward best in this comment.
Sorry to say this is not built into the functionality of Zendesk presently, but I'm curious as to the use case you are trying to solve for here.

In the hopes of unifying our AD as well as some of the other sources of data, our AD contains groups that access to our applications. If a user were to submit a request to be added to the group, without a dynamic dropdown I'll be forced to manually update the list.

That makes sense - you'll defintely need some time of tool to make that work programmatically, since you're not talking about Zendesk Groups. hassan - is this something Knots.io can assist with?

Thanks for the tag Brandon!
Tyler Duncan we have a lot of experience with these types of challenges and built our Knots.io automation apps to fill these Zendesk functionality gaps.
I believe our Ticket Parser - https://www.zendesk.com/marketplace/apps/support/810637/ticket-parser-extract-patterns-by-knots/
Should do this for you, but would you like to reach out to me at hassan@knots.io so I can make sure I know exactly what the flow you're trying to set up looks like?
