Feature Request: Article Templates
Posted Mar 01, 2024
Please give a quick overview of your product feature request or feedback and note who in your org is affected by this issue [ex. agents, admins, customers, etc.]. (2-3 sentences)
I would like to be able to see article templates in the article editor instead of only seeing this in the published works. When I think of article templates, I think of templates such as Powerpoint templates or Word document templates. Something that is a starting point for users and helps guide them. This effects all Admins and Agents. Could affect customers too.
What problem do you see this solving? (1-2 sentences)
Duplication of work! If it's built in Sandbox, and deployment is available for something complex like triggers and automations, it should be available for Forms, Form Conditions, and Fields!
When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool? What happened? How often does this problem occur and how does this impact your business? (3-4 sentences)
This problem is encountered frequently. 2-3 times a month. It impacts our agents by not allowing them a base to start their articles. Not everyone can start from a blank slate and create an article, sometimes they need a push or structure. That is what I would imagine the article templates would do, but I was incorrect in my assumption of this.
Are you currently using a workaround to solve this problem? (If yes, please explain) (1-2 sentences)
No.
What would be your ideal solution to this problem? How would it work or function? (1-2 sentences)
I would like to see the article templates, when applied to the article in the editor, to show in the editor. Below are some screenshots to show what I'm referring to.
Currently when someone uses the Article Template, as shown in the Current Template View screenshot (screenshot #2) only populates when looking at the preview or published article view:

+1 need to be able to easily apply the structure for certain article types, e.g. same headings structure, when starting a new article.

I currently work around by storing an HTML file of different types of knowledge articles within our ecosystem (Troubleshooting, New Feature, Release Note) on my local hard drive and copy / paste into "source" when I need them. it feels very 90s way to manage common structures. It would be nice to be able to choose from different templates for each type of article I write, either before I start writing or applying it after I've started drafting. Similar to the tools available in Confluence. TBH it'd be most useful as custom content blocks so I don't have to copy the source code from an unlisted "test" article where i store all the bitty bits of custom things I've created for our kB

Please also consider providing option to use the existing KC template when creating article from the guide admin.
