Help us improve Dashboard & Report permissions in Explore

Pinned

Posted Aug 05, 2024

We would love to understand how important it is for you and your company to be able to limit the ability to delete and edit dashboards and reports created by other editors in Explore. Your feedback will help us to shape the roadmap for improving permissions in Explore. To show your interest in this feature, please upvote this post and reply with a comment to the questions below.
Which new permissions should be available in Explore for controlling editing and deleting of dashboards and reports?

  • Should editors be allowed to only edit and delete their own dashboards and reports in Explore?
  • Should editors have the authority to decide which reports and dashboards can be edited and viewed when shared? Should it be set by the editor for each dashboard and report separately?
  • Where should the new permissions be available? In the Admin center as part of the user role (under Explore permissions)?
  • Should it be possible to set edit and delete permissions for calculations as well, in addition to dashboards and reports?

We look forward to hearing your feedback!

    • It would slow down my work if I was only able to edit and delete my own dashbaords and reports. For one I inherited my teams Zendesk instance and we have 5+ years of reports and dashboards I have been working on cleaning up. Second we work as a team and need to be able to update eachothers reports depending on who is pulling the data for the week, if we could not do that we would need to rethink how we do reporting each week. Additionally I have some team members who create reports trying to understand the data and often abandon them resulting in them needing to be cleaned up, repurposed, or deleted down the road.

    • It would be helpful fo each editor to decide who can view and edit their dashboards and reports separately as long as there was a super admin role that can monitor, edit, and delete reports created by others. I have come across instances where I needed to delete, edit, or recreate reports made by members who left our company years ago.

Perhaps different permission levels are needed:

- Admin access allows edit/delete of all reports/dashboards

- Report Creator allows creating of new reports and editing of own reports as well as reports shared with them. They could also select the option to allow other Report Creators to edit and share their reports.

Permissions to be administered as part of the user role.

Besides the access to create/edit reports some improvement on report viewing permissions, Talk reports in particular, are also needed. The live Talk dashboard is only available to Talk Admins currently meaning team supervisors that need to monitor queues need Talk Admin privileges which allows full access to the talk configuration. One should be able to identify user roles that should have access to reports (Admins only, Agents or even custom roles).
