Lookup relationships 1 to many

Allow lookup fields to be 1 to many and/or allow users to belong to custom object records

This will allow us to hopefully set up an association between user and custom object records

not yet, but this would allow additional customization in workflows

What would be your ideal solution to this problem? How would it work or function? (1-2 sentences)

Have a way to associate multiple users to a custom object. I truly don't know if this is possible or how it would be, but I would love if the idea were out there.
