Jon Wu created a post,
Add the following capabilities to the web widget JavaScript SDK:
- send message (like the old chat:send)
- on chat start event with the ability to know if the chat was proactive vs initiated by the user (similar to, but enhanced vs chat:start)
- on message received event (see message text, and who sent it, so you could evaluate logic on messages or run analytics, or even allow custom keywords that trigger browser actions with additional JavaScript integration)
The previous / legacy / Zopim SDK had more capabilities than the current SDK, but even just these couple of changes could help a lot.
The idea is to enable the following:
- Initiate "proactive messages" (technically unrelated to the proactive messaging feature) from JavaScript. This way, messages could be created dynamically or triggered in response to application behavior.
- Log analytics
- Build custom logic on the site or to send other messages or options based on message content

Jon Wu commented,
Will there be any ways to interact with or monitor proactive messages from the web widget SDK?
The previous / legacy / Zopim SDK had more capabilities.
For more complex scenarios, we would love to initiate proactive messages from JavaScript. This way, messages could be created dynamically or triggered in response to application behavior.
For monitoring, there doesn't seem to be any way to know when proactive messages are received. If there was a callback for when proactive messages were triggered, we'd be able to log analytics for those users, then determine if/how their journeys were affected by the chat.

Jon Wu commented,
Elissa Tikalsky we too are looking to switch to Messaging and observed similar performance issues with Web Widget (Classic) in the past, along with making similar lazy loading optimizations to Yvonne P. to mitigate the issues.
I noticed that all of the articles about performance and connectOnPageLoad talk about Web Widget (Classic). Are there any similar capabilities with Messaging?
