CommentLeads, contacts, and deals

Katie Dougherty

I've been wracking my brain with this same question for over a year, and I found a workaround to update the customer status using a CSV, without having to pay for a third-party integration.

This is the process:

  • Filter all Contacts labeled as "non customers" or "Past customers" using a smart list (or select the contacts you want to update to "current customer")
  • Export smart list into a CSV and save
  • Create columns in new CSV that adds a fake Deal to each company, set the deal value at $0, and the deal stage at "won"
  • Tag all the deals as "Fake Deals" so you can find them later
  • import CSV back into Zendesk

Since a won deal was created for each contact, this triggers Zendesk to label these companies as "Current Customers"... later, you can filter out all those fake deals using the tag, and just delete them. Even if you delete the deal that initially labeled the contact a current customer, this doesn't revert the contact's status as a customer.

CommentImporting and exporting in Sell

I've encountered a few challenges when importing Sell Contacts in Zendesk Sell.

  • Zendesk Sell will not let me upload data to a custom field that is a multi-select. Only the first option of that multi-select is applied when mapping data.
  • The option "Customer Status" does not appear when mapping data from the CSV to Zendesk Sell. Customer Status is a default field included in the profiles
  • I am not able to import a client's billing address through a CSV, only enter it manually. This is not the main address, but the billing address (a field only triggered when the contact is labeled as a current customer... see second point above)
