I have been using Zendesk for over 4 years, and have been developing for the platform almost the entire time. I am grateful to be the Zendesk Developer User Group leader. I invite you to join our Zendesk Developer User Group; it is a great place to learn how to get more out of your Zendesk instance and experience.

Zack Olinger created a post,

Post Developer - Zendesk APIs

We had another amazing Zendesk Developer User Group meeting on Friday, April 28th, 2023! It was great to be able to get an developer environment created and walkthrough some code. We demonstrated the basics of a ZCLI app, showcasing HTML and Javascript interactions and making API calls to display information within the Agent UI. We also touched on the basics of JSON, how to create the basic structure of a ZCLI app, and some of the tools that a developer would likely employ; such as an IDE, learning how to navigate Linux folder structures from the command line, etc. Below is a short bullet point of what we covered, along with the link to the recording of this meeting.

April 28th, 2023 Recap

In this meeting, we covered:

  • Walkthrough on how to get WSL installed on Windows
  • Walkthrough a demo "Hello World" ZCLI application that runs inside of a Zendesk instance
  • Walkthrough a demo of the Zendesk "X-Ray" app; this app makes an API call and displays information about the currently logged in Agent
  • YouTube video link

Next Meeting

Date: Friday, May 26th, 2023

Time: 1:00PM CT

Location: Virtual

Topics:

Have you ever needed to obtain all of the field IDs? User ID? Form IDs? Any kind of IDs within Zendesk? Have you ever needed to investigate an issue and "see" what the data "looks like" inside of Zendesk? Then this meeting is for you! In this meeting we will be covering the indispensable tool: Postman. Postman is a free tool that is used by admins and developers alike. With Postman, it is easy to configure, test, and validate information within Zendesk your instances. Postman can also be used as a great jumping to getting those same API called into functional code; and in a variety of different languages!

Come join us as we explore Postman and how it can be used to enrich your Zendesk experience!

Hey Lila Kingsley!

I did receive an email notification about this comment without the @mention. :)

Thanks for bringing this back to my awareness! I will make it a point to include that information in the posts and emails.

I am working on crafting the post and email from the 2023-04-28 meeting now; I will be posting the article and sending the email out later today.

Thanks Lila!

Developer Resources:

We're starting to pick up some traction already. In our first meeting, there was a lot of interest and curiosity about how to develop for the Zendesk platform. In this meeting, we will be going over how to get ZCLI set up and also walk through an app that allows views to be created for agents that are followers of a ticket. This app uses tags and API calls, and runs hidden in the background.

Our next meeting is Friday, April 28th, 2023 at 1:00PM CT.

Bring your questions, curiosities, and ideas and let's see what we can create together!
