We, too, would find this helpful to select a template when creating a new article. 

Workaround: We use Content Blocks as templates, then unlink the content to be able to edit the placeholders.

I have also experienced times when I was editing an article, and lost connectivity, easily losing an hour or more work. This feature would be extremely helpful, especially since we can revert to previous edits.

Since KCS models ask support agents to "Search early, search often," it would be wonderful to have the data on how often search is used in the Knowledge Capture application.
