Does updating a ticket from a trigger via API re-run triggers again?

Following the SweetHawk document about how to update a ticket from a trigger via the API, does that API call cause the triggers to run again? Or is it smart enough to see that it is coming from a trigger already and not re-run triggers? Clear as mud? 🙃
