Changing existing host mapping
We've rebranded and our domain has changed as a result. We have host mapping configured for the old domain, and have successfully configured host mapping for the new domain.
The issue we're having is with redirecting traffic from the old host mapped domain to the new one. As a result we had to revert the host mapping changes.
The old domain is essentially orphaned, there is no hosting attached to it, it's a just a domain. I'm confused about where the redirect needs to happen. It can't be server side, as there is no server - but I don't know what kind of DNS change I need to make.
Has anyone else been through this process?

Hey Chris,
Some hosting companies will let you do a 301 redirect from the the DNS admin settings, without needing to have hosting or an .htaccess file. If yours doesn't, you might want to consider hosting a tiny .htaccess file on the old domain to handle the redirects to the new domain.
I also think there's a way to point your domain at your new hosting services to 'park' the domain there and then you could have an .htaccess file there, but I don't really know *how* that'd be done. I try to fiddle with domain settings as little as possible.

Thanks Dan, that's really useful - I'll explore these options.

Hi Chris, similar situation here. Did you get it to work for you?

Hi Max, in the end we had to make a change to our load balancers to accept traffic to the old domain and redirect it to the new one.

Thanks, mate! :-)
