    Hi Jonathon and Bart,

We are not looking into bringing this functionality back in near future, but we can offer you some alternative tools:

    -

http://www.techsmith.com/jing.html - starts free and easy to use, and you can upgrade for more storage if you wish. Supports both Windows and Mac

    -

http://www.techsmith.com/snagit.html - the non-free and comprehensive alternative to Jing. Supports both Windows and Mac

    -

https://www.getcloudapp.com/ - starts free and easy to use. Supports both Windows and Mac

    -

Firefox or Chrome user? You can find lots of apps and extensions:  https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/screen%20capture and  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=screen+capture will get you started

    Hi Jonathon,

Good question! I want to know the same!

I just wanted to start filling our support center with Screenr recordings, but I am not going to repeat this whole process if over a couple of months Screenr stops working and I can start all over again.

    Will Zendesk integrate another solution?

I would really love to hear what others are considering here. My agents love screenr and use it consistently. So we have begun experimenting

Using Jing, Snagit, and a few others. But I want a standard which would include a central place to store them, that my whole team can access to share, but also be able to upload and send links on tix.

Ideas??  I can go put some more coffee in my Zendesk mug. Will that help?

Same here as Mark Fly - we've been using Business Screenr for years.  We have 724 videos and get about 1500 views/month.  Who else offers the simplicity of screencasting and centralized storage and an authenticated experience?  We have looked at Kaltura, Qumu, and Sonic Foundry - but those are enterprise social video solutions where you must be all in to their corporate YouTube packages or you don't get it at all.  Kaltura's piece looks exactly like screenr, and it has SSO, but you gotta by their MediaSpace portal, overbuy storage and bandwidth, and take all the other nuggets (full text search, live streaming, etc.).  That all came out to around $6k/month when we priced that one.  All others similar - several thousand a month.  We just don't need all that.  I just want screencasting and the video secured behind a login in  a centrally hosted location.  Anything else out there like business screenr?

    Hey guys,

Wanted to jump in to say I definitely share the pain in trying to find a good alternative. We have unfortunately been struggling to find a good replacement, too.

We're looking for something that's not Java based, which is actually very much possible with lots of solutions out there for screensharing, co-browsing and "Mayday" like features. However, they all lack a very key component: recording and storage.

We've been talking to a number of companies, and while none of them have that key component of recording it does seem that they are getting that need from a number of their customers and prospects. Unfortunately the market there is just not matured enough. We will continue to search and talk to as many vendors as we can until we can find a good alternative.

That is good to hear. We have always used Techsmith products for vids. Camtasia for training Videos, Snagit for all Screenshots and shortvids, and then housing them in the Screencast enviroment. It works out very well for everything, exceot the option that we had with Screenr which is having it available to the EU and quickly upload. We have been having some of our user;s start using their free screen recording tool called Jing.

I dont know if they would be receptive, but might be worth a shot.

    Hi Guys,

We've heard a lot of people having problems one this one. I wanted to offer as much help as I can.

As a Co-founder of ilos Videos that might be a lot of help. Our software is geared for teams and lets you quickly record, instantly host, and easily manage all your content in one spot.

    1) Extended Trial: I can give all 6 of you (even Emily) a free 75 day trial to play around with the software and see how you like it. That trial will also let you make an unlimited amount of videos/uploads and you can add as many team members to your trial as you'd like.

    and

    2) Get Started for less: I want to get you up and running without breaking the bank. If you play around within your first 14 days and like what you see let me know. When I hear from you I will also give you a 30% discount off the list price.

To get started go to www.ilosvideos.com and hit the free trial option. Then message me the account name (seanhiggins@ilosvideos.com) and I'll apply the discounts.

Let me know if there are questions or other things I can do to help. Seriously, I remember when our CRM provider went away last year and being in that state of limbo just stinks.

    -Sean

I am struggling with the same problem you are all describing.  Have you guys checked out http://screencast-o-matic.com/gopro/.  I am familiar with the ScreenR api.  It looks like this other tool does almost all the exact same stuff.  It has the same kind of Java issues that ScreenR can run in to (not working on Chrome and newer OS's).  That being said, when ScreenR had Java code signing 9 months ago (tied to the latest Java release being more locked down), I tested Screencast-O-Matic and they never saw the signing issues that ScreenR saw.  It took ScreenR over a month to fix the issue.  I never switched to Screencast-O-Matic because I didn't want to recode the various sites that I made to work with ScreenR.

Has anyone at ZenDesk consider that option?

Has Zendesk considered ANY options for a replacement of this crucial function?

Yes, we have. I think we've probably spoken to a dozen vendors at this point. Screencasting, screensharing, co-browsing, etc.

So far nothing has really come all that close to matching Screenr. Just a quick reminder of what we're trying to match against:

    1. No executable needed. Screenr used Java, which we'd like to avoid for obvious reasons
    2. Can be used by end-users and agents
    3. Can record screencasts (co-browsing is a different use-case entirely)
    4. Recordings are stored by Zendesk
    5. Recordings can be shared outside of Tickets/Articles

A seemingly simple list. However, we have not been able to find a vendor that has all the qualities of Screenr, without the Java. Many vendors are jumping on WebRTC or equivalents, but mainly to fill co-browsing needs.

Rather aside from finding a vendor that matches those criteria, we also have to find one that wants to dedicate some amount of their resources to deeply partner with us, as Articulate (developers of Screenr) did themselves.

I'm also in the same boat, missing good old Screenr, though I can see that the problem seems to be Java. But is there a possibility of using Screenr if Java is allowed to run on a pc? Or is it altogether closed?

  • Jake Holman

Hey Rita, unfortunately we had to remove screencasting functionality on July 1st, so although previously recorded screencasts will still playback you won't be able to create them.

We're still actively talking with partners about a replacement, but our standards are a little high given the shakey foundation of Java, so it's taking a bit longer than hoped.

Thank you so very much for your prompt answer, Jake! In fact, as a teacher trainer in Rosario, Argentina, I am giving a webinar next Thursday, in which I have included Screenr as one of my favorite tools :-(

I am going to keep the slides anyway, and show Screenr wonderful features, hoping it is back in a near future!!!

(will you post the good news here, please...??)

    Best wishes,

    Rita

Totally. We'll make sure when we do find a good partner, we'll be letting all the Screenr alumni know.

Not having this functionality has really had a huge impact on our support team. I was curious if there was any progress on this topic.

  • Mark Fly

Yes, it was difficult for us too. We moved on to Techsmith's Snagit. It gives us fast videos and screenshots with markup abilities..of course not free, but a lot better now... :)

  • Joshua Gordon

That's for you to create videos to share with customers, right? The most important aspect for us is customers being able to create videos for us. Does snagit accommodate that without the end user needing to install/license a product?

  • Rita Zeinstejer

A great pity. I loved Screenr, and also Jing, but Snagit is paid --too bad for teachers! Anyway, a good option.

Thank you for trying to give us --Screenr fans-- another option.

You guys may want to try our zendesk app "iorad" (available in the zendesk marketplace).  We let users build step-by-step instructions with the same ease of recording a screencast.  It's free and you can sign up at www.iorad.com.  We have a chrome extension as well. The best part of our app is that everything you make is searchable right from zendesk unlike videos. If you have any questions feel free to email me at spatel at iorad.com.  Watch the video of our zendesk app to see how it works.

    Hey Jake,

Not sure if you have found a solution but we have the features you have listed and would be equivalent to Sceenr with some extras.   Please reach out if interested.

    Best,

Hi, I know this is an old thread but if there is still a need - I'd be interested in hearing more about it.   I represent TechSmith and we would be interested in understand how Jing/Screencast or Snagit/Screencast could be improved to search the needs of this community.    What would an integration with zendesk need to do?

If you'd be willing to be interviewed via email or phone - could you contact me at wendy.hamilton@techsmith.com.  Or send a linkedin message.

    Thanks,

    Wendy

My team actually has SnagIt and ScreenCast accounts that we use to record software training videos that are made outside our ticket system, Zendesk.  We had been using a product  that integrated with ZD called Breakout Room, which gave clients an option to record their screen in the midst of submitting a ticket form via our Zendesk client facing portal.  Once they finished recording their screen, there would be an option to have it show up within the submitted Zendesk ticket somewhere.

This is what Zendesk used to have with Screenr, and now since Breakout Room is going out of business, we’re left with no options to replace the functionality.  It would be great if there was a SnagIt and Screencast could be integrated with Zendesk so customers could use it to record videos of their screens that get embedded in the tickets somehow that we could see.

Otherwise, would love suggestions on other options.

We use SnagIt company wide for a couple of reasons.

    1) I can't stand markups that are not consistent and having one platform keeps that in check

    2) The quality of the deliverables is great.

    3) Being able to do a quick video AND edit it without editing software knowledge is tremendous.

    4) The Plugin to Copy to Zendesk is also phenomenal...oh wait.... that is the one thing missing!

    5) All of our training videos are housed in Screencast. An inexpensive yet powerful means to see stats and provide users a Table of Contents ( We use Camtasia for our official Training and Support Vids)

    6) I could keep going, but would love to talk this over with wendy.hamilton@techsmith.com

Wendy, I sent you my Calendly link so feel free to let me know a good time.

Thanks everyone who responded to be about Snagit, Jing, Screencast.  I'll be in touch this week.

Nicole, I would like to be connected to someone at Zendesk.  I had reached out directly but not heard back.  Please contact me at wendy.hamilton@techsmith.com so I have your contact info.
