    Hey All,

I recently put together a quick how-to article on integrating Google Tag Manager into your Help Center. Please take a look and let me know if this helps you out at all.

    Thanks!

    Hi Sally.

Did you ever get any further with this? I am currently trying to track form submissions using the Google Tag Manager, but struggling due to the iframe.

Any suggestions will be most appreciated.

    Kind Regards

    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,

No...I believe Zendesk told us they do not support Google Tag Manager when we checked.

I haven't found any info directly from Zendesk, but tried to implement over the weekend and the data coming in was 90% lower then normal analytics, so something is definitely not working there... Zendesk? Would anyone comment?

    Hey everyone!

Sally Anne is correct; Google Tag manager is not currently supported in Help Center so you may find that it doesn't work correctly if you try to use it.

I did some poking around in our Product Feedback Forum and was surprised to see that there doesn't seem to be an existing post about this. To that end, I'm going to actually move this post over there so others can add their votes and use cases.

If any of you are willing to do so, our Product Managers would find it immensely helpful if you can add a detailed use case so they can better understand the need for this functionality.

Thanks so much for your feedback!

    Hi,

We do want to start using Tag Manager. This will give us the ability to track visitors that use multiple webistes, like our corporate website, product blogs, helpcenter, etc...

Please advice how that can be achieved best within helpcenter.

We found using Tag Manager breaks links with a # in it. Does anyone experience similar issues?

    Hi Frits,

We haven't implemented GTM on our help center yet. If I see more evidence that it works, I'd love to do it for the same reasons you've stated.

Simo Ahava has a blog post that might help you sort out the hash tag situation.

    Good luck!

Given the wide use of GTM (and other tag management tools) these days, it would be great for Zendesk to provide support. In terms of implementation, it could be treated the same as the Google Analytics integration, simply tick to enable and supply the GTM container ID.  Zendesk could then implement the code on all pages immediately after the <body> tag.

Without knowing how other people have implemented the GTM tag themselves, issues could arise if implemented in the header of pages or at the bottom of pages.

While the process to track GA events using Zendesk does not appear too complicated, it could be improved through GTM and pushing the information to a Data Layer. Information on the content being viewed by visitors could be added to a Data Layer triggered on page load with this either created manually or ideally, automatically through Zendesk.

People would have the option of adding other tracking directly through GTM, ensuring their GA (or other tools) are then consistent across their entire website.

In our case, next to using GTM to connect with Google Analytics (which we did directly now), we would use it for an integration with Hotjar, to get direct feedback from our customers on the content of specific helpcenter articles.

I've asked about this in the past too, unfortunately Zendesk does not currently support GTM.

We implement everything through Google Tag Manager. It's common practice.

I'm also worried that we will run into problems with tracking across multiple subdomains (i.e. counting multiple sessions and/or users when someone clicks from www.website.com to help.website.com) Anyone have bad experiences there?

We use GTM to implement not only GA but also Hotjar for our customer support website in order to enhance our user experience. It seems that the desktop version works okay yet the mobile version doesn't work yet. Will Zendesk support GTM in the near future? Thanks!!

    Hello!

Looks like you're currently using the Mobile Layout (Under Guide Settings in the admin). The Mobile Layout does not allow for customization of templates or JavaScript. This is used to render themes that are not Responsive optimized. However, it looks like your theme is built to be Responsive. If you disable Mobile Layout, your customization to your theme for GTM should start working on mobile devices as well and your customers will start to see your Responsive theme.

    Thanks!
