    Hi Mark S,

I'm happy to take over for Oscar here :-)

Yes the moderator functionality has been released with Gather Professional a few months ago.

I second this. It would be nice to have "Forum Agents" that can administer certain forums without having any access to the support ticket system.

+1 for real. This would be a huge boon.

Can someone please pay attention to these requests? This was requested almost 3 years ago and I've found 11 requests that are either identical or are requesting very similar changes to the moderation queue. We are looking to whitelist users and not have to approve every single post. If we do approve every single post, then please set up notifications. Also, the ability to have community moderators would help as well. This is not a small request, please see all the other requests...

It seems the idea of having a new role for Forum Agents that do not need to access support tickets is not new. How hard can it be? Back in 2010 a Zendesk representative in this thread thought it would be a good idea. Can you please provide some feedback as to why it has not been provided other than it is not on the roadmap?

You'll likely see this soon. However, it will be a type of Restricted Agent, and not open to End-Users (although you can of course, promote an End-User to an Agents and restrict them to Moderate Forums only).

Thanks for the feedback Jake. presumably though, these Restricted Agents will be a paid-for license...?

  • Jake Holman

@Richard: That's correct, they would be offering a form of support to End-Users, and thus, are an Agent (or a Restricted Agent, I should say).

I was referred to this topic to re-post and vote up a question/feature request for a moderator setting that allows us to "pre-approve" topic comments:

We currently moderate or "pre-approve" customer forum posts in our community to prevent spam and to a lesser degree, keep posts on-topic. This is with another provider that we'd like to replace with ZenDesk. Is this type of moderation possible with ZenDesk forums? I've been searching community help but can't find anything specific to this issue.

Hello! I would just like to raise this idea again.

We're currently looking at moving across to ZenDesk Forums, and would love to have the ability to provide select end-users with a limited moderator status - as Richard says, our super-users.

It seems a bit silly to pay a full license fee for each end-user we'd like to provide some responsibility to in the forums area only - is this still the only option?

    Thanks!

@Josh: It is still the only option. The community side of the forums isn't going to receive any attention in the first half of this year, that I'm aware of. However, I'm sure when we come to look at that side of the forums again, we'll reconsider if that's still what we want to enforce.

Wanted to chime in here and throw my support behind the idea of forum moderators who come from the 'community' and want to help keep things in order in the forum, without them needing to be agents.  I posted my thoughts here as well https://support.zendesk.com/entries/20039908-community-forum-moderators

If this type of thing were offered on the forum side of Zendesk it would take it to more of a level of being a true forum, and perhaps you might even be able to get people to jump in and help with the Zendesk forum ... hint hint, wink wink (I'm volunteering to help moderate these forums ... :) )

Has there been any progress here? It's been 2 years, and this would be WONDERFUL!!! :)

+1 Empowering enthusiastic super users in the community is the #1 way to lessen support burden. It's a basic feature that most forum software has. Please consider adding it to the roadmap.

I just found another thread asking for a Community Forum Moderator role here that dates back to 2011 which also has 48 upvotes. It would be great to be able to merge these two...erm...but that function has also been requested.

There really are just a few basic functions like merge, moderators and a language filter for posts that would make ZD's Community on par with the functionality most forum software provides. Please, please, please :) #NotToProudToBeg

I agree with this, I'm pretty disappointed that this is not getting any attention. This should be "built-in" if the community application means anything Zendesk.

@ewrt - Is there something to be thankful for?  It would be great if there was some movement here!

+1 for empowering and recognizing capable users

That being said, I have created an extra badge in JS/CSS that recognizes our moderators' contributions even if they are still crippled when it comes to actual ownership of their areas.

    Hi Tim -

User roles are actually a very difficult thing to do with the way the platform was originally built. Making any adjustments to it requires redoing some of the core code.

Also, no improvements to the community platform are planned in the foreseeable future.

    Hey everyone,

we are doing some research around this feature(and others) early next year, and would love to have some of you participate.

You can sign up for a session here: https://calendly.com/zencommunity/usability-testing-scoping-of-new-community-features

Let me know if the provided time slots does not work for you.

Looking forward to talking with you!

Any movement on this @Oscar_Junker. It would be good to know if members of the community could be given some controls without giving them the keys to the castle.  Moving posts, tagging, marking them solved/assume solved, hiding spam etc.

    Hey guys,

Unfortunately this is not currently on the roadmap as we are focusing on other things. That being said, we've seen more and more use cases where it might make sense to have another role, so we will be looking into whether we should add that in the future.
