    Hi all,

    Good news: the Guide team has introduced a solution for this. It's not a global setting, as some customers also wanted to be able to turn comments on or off for various sections, categories, or groupings of other articles. So, they developed an action where you can bulk open or close multiple articles for comment at once.

    To access this, go into Guide Admin > Manage articles  > select articles > Article Settings

    In article settings, you'll see the option to "open for comments" or "close for comments" and this will apply to all articles you have selected.

    Hi Celia,

    If you don't want comments anywhere in your Knowledge Base I would recommend you to remove the comments from your theme. You can do that by going to Customize design > Edit theme > Article page and then from there remove the code that generates the comments.

    That way comments won't show up on your articles without you having to disable comments for each article.

    Ideally, comments could be optional in any of the themes by checking a box therefore EASY to globally remove the comments without being a programmer or knowing HTML code. Comments should be an optional feature, not a required one.

    Hi Kristine,

    We are definitely working towards this, but for now the best way is to delete or comment out the comments code.

    @Christian / Zendesk,

    Can you provide the "code" to remove in "Customize design > Edit theme > Article page" just so we aren't deleting more than we need to to avoid potential issues?

    Thanks,
    John

    I'd agree with the above question, please provide the necessary code to remove.

    Does this exist yet as a more global option?

    Hi all -

    This functionality doesn't currently exist, and I haven't seen it on any roadmaps to date. But I encourage folks to continue adding their votes to the original post and providing detailed use cases in the comments.

    Hi,I encountered the same problem

    I have a suggestion:

    When the user chooses to Turn Off Article Comments, remember this operation, the next time add an article, the default is not checked.

    When the user chooses to Turn On Article Comments, the next time add an article, the default is checked.

    Use case: we won't entertain conversation in our knowledge base, period. We don't need a third stream of user feedback to moderate.

    This seems a pretty trivial feature to implement, and after two and half years, I'd have to think that the will to implement it is lacking.

    Currently, you need to pay for a Guide Professional to be able to implement the 'workaround' which is to edit the templates yourself. I'm paying for Guide Professional for this reason onlyand I'm not thrilled to have yet another codebase to maintain simply to disable comments. (yup, if you change the template, then you'd better believe you're going to need to maintain that code sooner or later...)

    It's not just this template that needs editing.  You'd probably also want to remove the "0 comments" icons in article lists, too, but as far as I can tell, the template for `{{recent_activity}}` is not available, so instead paste into the bottom of style.css:

    ```
    .recent-activity-item-comment { display: none; }
    ```

    • Plus, the follow button... no point following if there's no comment thread, right? `{{subscribe}}`
    • plus `.article-footer` (we don't need the comment count, or to share our help articles)

    Heaven forbid you're using another template, or want to adopt another template in future.

    Edit: I've made our changes public - you can use this as a reference: https://github.com/gizmag/newatlas-zendesk/commits/master

    Point being: this should be available as a global setting.

    Over half my subscription cost goes meeting this requirement, and I'm highly aware that zendesk competitors can import my data direct from zendesk, so I'd consider us to be in an 'extended evaluation' phase.

    +1 for this feature! There doesn't seem to be a straightforward way to remove comment features on the page when editing the template for someone who isn't familiar with HTML/CSS

    +1 - seems to still be a query 3 years later!

  • I'd like to echo New Atlas's comments above. Remembering to turn off comments on each individual article really isn't good enough. There needs to be a global setting for those of us who don't want comments, or aren't allowed to have comments in the mix. When operating in a regulated environment, comments just create too much of a risk. I'm sure others have other reasons too.

    This functionality rolled out 8 months ago - check out the official comment at the top of the thread. :)
