Show Table Totals at the Bottom of Columns
You can add a total to a table using Result Manipulation>Totals
But the total appears at the top of the column.
It is more natural to see totals at the bottom. Is that possible?
-
Mine shows up at the bottom, but I have noticed that the way they phrase their sums and the way I think about them is different. If I want to sum a column, they consider that a sum of the rows in that column. So for example in the table below, the sum was on the row rather than the column and it showed at the bottom.

Thanks for the question, Graeme. In that menu for Result Manipulation > Totals, look at the bottom for Inverse totals position. This will make the sums switch from top to bottom.

Yes I have been flipping that little check box but it does nothing for me.
Counts appear at the bottom but do not move when he inverse is changed.
Chris- yes the terminology caught me as well.

Graeme,
You have a manual sort on the Tickets column, and this will over-ride the total settings. Click the column header again until the triangle goes away and that should fix it.

That is very well spotted. Thank you, that has resolved it,
However, from a design view, that makes no sense whatsoever. The sort option should not apply to the total. It should only apply to the rows. The total position should be only determined by the result manipulation.

So I am going to call that a bug.
It is only by chance that a column sorted by value would have the the total exactly at the top or bottom. For example, if there were negative and positive values, the sum could appear in the middle.
Similarly, if you use another aggregation, such as average, you may see this:
In the above example, the average appears in the middle of the report. This is not very useful.
Can you confirm that this is a known issue?

Hey Graeme,
Thanks for the detailed replication steps and screenshot! I'll get this into a ticket so we can investigate further.

Has this been addressed? When I have an average configured, it shows up in the middle of the tables. Please advise..

Hey fellownarrator -
I've reached out to Travis; he's going to see if he can dig up the ticket he had going with Graeme and let us know what's up. It might take us a few hours, but we'll get back to you. -
From my ticket, it was because I had applied a sort order to the table.
If you look closely, you will see a sort applied with the little arrow on the column header. This sorts the entire column including the total row- which I thought a little odd. The result is the total row appears in the middle if you have averages or a mix of positive an negative numbers.
I would expect these total or aggregate rows to stay at the top or the bottom and not be moved by a sort. But apparently that was not the case.
Hope that helps.

So what is the solution (how do you move the total to the bottom)? Is this a bug basically or is there a fix?
-
After reviewing the ticket and talking with Graeme, it's basically just how these tables work. I'm raising it with the product team, as I agree that expected behavior should be a bit different from what it currently is.

+1 Sum, Average, etc. should not be included when sorting on a column.
