Restrict Ability to Create Data Sources

    Thank you for reaching out.

    We are currently considering different improvements to the management of data sources:

    - by default, every editor would access the same data source and be able to collaborate on it

    - when cloning a dashboard, data sources wouldn't be duplicated

    - the creation of data sources would be restricted to a subset of editors or admins

    The first two improvements will likely be available before the third one. We'll get back to you with a possible availability timeline by the end of Q2.

    Hi Vincent,

    I am happy to hear of these improvements. I wanted to let you know that one of the challenges we have now is duplicate data sources appearing in our Explore instance. I suppose this happens when I clone a dashboard.

    I think your improvements will greatly help with that. I wonder if there is some way to warn a user as well, when they are creating a duplicate of an existing data source.

    Is there ever a use case for two data sources with the same Connector in Explore, from your perspective? I could imagine some power users have specific individual named sets they might want to use, for example, but overall I think it would only complicate administration of the instance.
