Why does the alarm siren go off every time I connect even if I have it disabled?

This siren has shaved years off my life as I nearly have a heart attack every time it goes off. It's part of our agent onboarding to change the sound or remove it. And I can confirm the the sound itself is set to none. I've tried different sounds too but when I launch chat for the first time (and as the admin, I don't take chats, so I'm always set to invisible) I get about a half second of the alarm sound before it cuts off. 

 

Why?

If you have Departments set up, I'd recommend removing yourself from all departments as this will avoid that lovely sound.

Also I have noticed when we change the sound settings, we apparently change them for End Users too. So strange, but true.

Kelsey H, we won an award for the most startling and unnerving sound ever. Sorry for the lost years! Your account administrator has provided Zendesk with account assumption access and I tested with your account and was not able to replicate the issue. There are three things that would be great if could try:

  1. Can you confirm you are clicking the Save button after changing your sound settings? I know that seems silly, but I have been bitten by that before.

  2. Can you try logging into Zendesk in an Incognito window in your browser?

  3. If neither of those work, can you try this from a different computer?

If you are still getting the alarm after trying these, let us know and we can open a ticket to explore this further.

Thanks David. Hadn't considered it might be local. For point 1, it's been saved for the past few months. And for a while it seemed to work, but has recently come back. I've double checked and it has been saved.

Interesting for points 2 and 3, it doesn't seem to affect my home PC. My work machine is a macbook air, so I wondered if it's something to do with memory as that machine gets its cache cleared pretty frequently with troubleshooting.

Glad to hear this is not happening on your home machine. Since this sounds like it might be localized to your work computer, it might be worth having your IT team take a peek and see if they see anything that jumps out to them. We definitely recommend testing in the Incognito browser so you have a clear cache when you try things out.

I am using Agent Workspace and we have an issue with this siren going off constantly. According to an agent I just spoke to on live chat from Support, this siren goes off by default and cannot be turned off when using the Agent Workspace. This is really poor. It's causing us significant issues when Agents are not logged into Chat - the siren goes off constantly. This needs to be changed so that Admins can amend the sound settings for all Agents.

So what's the end solution for this? I also have the same problem and have no clue how to fix it and it is very disruptive as it goes off in the middle of my meetings? If someone can help I would be very grateful

I have been given a solution by Zendesk Support to revert back to old-style Zendesk Chat. It's not a great solution, but it does work and the alarm does stop (thankfully). You cannot change your alerts/sounds settings using the new Agent Workspace, which is a real oversight.
