Why does the reporter change when a new issue is created from the Jira integration?

Answer

Two common cases cause this:

  • The Reporter does not have the Modify Reporter permission in the project
  • The Reporter field is not on the screen for the project type you select when you create the issue

Use the steps below to confirm both items:

Modify Reporter permission:

  1. In Jira, go to the Issues section. Your Jira version may look slightly different.
  2. Click Permission schemes, then open your main scheme, such as Default Permission Scheme
  3. Find Modify Reporter and check the project roles. Administrators and any other roles you assign to your team must appear.

Check the screen (project type):

  1. In Jira, go to the Issues section
  2. Click Screens. This shows all screens.
  3. Click Configure for the relevant screen. Confirm the Reporter field appears in the field list. If you do not see the Reporter field, add it from the bottom of the list. Repeat this for each screen you use in your projects.
