We would like to be able to report on the number of article comments on a periodic basis. This could be done per all articles, per subset of articles, or per article. Also, we would like to be able to determine if a comment is left by an end-user or an agent.

Comment data can help us determine whether we are responding to all comments and in addition to views, it gives us an idea of how successful the content is.

The current comment data under Reporting > Knowledge Base is very limited.

I agree with @...'s feedback. We would also like to be able to pull comment data in Explore. Comment data - like votes, subscriptions, times linked, views - are all important in determining how successful an article is.
