Feature Request to Edit Article URLs

Posted May 20, 2020

I totally get why ZD does it the way it does, but it is less than optimal. Even having the "/hc/en-us/articles" adds unneeded complexity. It would be a very cool feature to have the ability to customize the URLs. Being able to change the slug while editing the article would be awesome. So then we could achieve something like this: "help.mydomian.com/user-guides/product-xyz-help" or (for an article) "help.mydomian.com/article/product-xyz-troubleshooting"

We also would like the ability to customize the URLs of the articles, sections, and categories. This would help out IT department map to the URLs much easier.

Having is functionality would make URL mapping much easier, especially for articles with non unicode characters (e.g: Vietnamese). Hope that this feature will soon be implemented in near future releases of ZenDesk Guide.

+1 from me. It's very difficult to tell customers exactly which article to go to while on the phone without easily accessible URLs

One thing I've done in the months since posting this is to take advantage or redirects on our domain. I manage the server that hosts the website so this is trivial to do. For example:

Redirect 302 /articles/product-support-123 https://help.domain.com/hc/en-us/articles/360046759191-Product-Support-123

Then when you visit...

http://www.domain.com/articles/product-support-123

you are redirected to...

https://help.domain.com/hc/en-us/articles/362346759444-Product-Support-123

I've gathered up a hefty lists of redirects in my HTACCESS file (Apache per folder config). You can also do this in the virtual hosts file if you have access to it.

+1 - would reduce risk of broken links/redirects elsewhere in our help center content and in our product.

Hey All,

I understand the use case and desire to edit URLs. Right now we're working on enabling 301 / 302 redirects for URLs in Help Center and expect to release that this quarter. However we aren't currently planning on adding the ability edit URLs in the next year. I can update this thread if we add this to the roadmap.

I appreciate the feedback. Thank you
